A Gorgeous Victoria (B.C.) Wedding at the Hatley Castle

NICOLE + PAUL

"The Privileged Lovers" by RUMI

The moon has become a dancer
at this festival of love.

This dance of light,
This sacred blessing,
This divine love,
beckons us
to a world beyond
only lovers can see
with their eyes of fiery passion.

They are the chosen ones
who have surrendered.
Once they were particles of light
now they are the radiant sun.

They have left behind
the world of deceitful games.
They are the privileged lovers
who create a new world
with their eyes of fiery passion.

My vocabulary is too limited to express how much love and respect I have for Paul and Nicole. Since my first conversation with Paul to schedule a surprise proposal to his beautiful Nicole in Quebec City, and to the actual wedding planning in the historic Hatley Castle in Victoria, British Columbia, together we have worked in creating something beautiful, something memorable for not only the couple, but for their loved ones as well.

If you haven’t heard of the Hatley Castle before reading these lines, chances are that you might have seen it previously in the popular Marvel comics movies of the X-Men. In fact, the Hatley Castle was the place used as Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

Photographing the rehearsal a day or two before the wedding proved to be a wonderful experience, as it allowed me to meet their parents and closed ones in order to create a rapport based on trust and mutual expectations. When photographing weddings, the quality of the photographs is the highest when everyone, and I mean everyone from the couple and their families and their guests, are tuned to the same frequency. And, oh, what a sweet frequency we were all tuned in on that special, magnificent day.

The whole wedding weekend was a success also with the participation of the excellent wedding planner Nicole Jespersen, the creative florist Tara McHugh, the delightful cake artists at Ooh La La Cupcakes, and the visual genius Alexa Rae in making the bride look at her best for wedding.

To Paul and Nicole, to their families and friends, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being loving, genuine and caring people who value life so much. Thank you for giving me the honour of documenting this special time of yours.

While you’re here, you might be interested in taking a look at Paul and Nicole’s beautiful engagement session in Old Quebec City that was taken a few days before Christmas.
